Burly blokes and a roaring crowd; tense moments followed by jubilant shouts of joy, often accompanied by sighs of disbelief; expectant crowds waiting for a final whistle to blow. This is what you can expect at one of the most famed rugby stadiums in the world, Twickenham. The ground is synonymous with world class rugby, and the 2009 Royal Bank of Scotland Six Nations Championship promises to deliver just that. For eager fans and dedicated supporters, the game between England and France, scheduled for March, will be a time of tense game play and hopefully reverie for the England fans. In the 2008 championship, England beat France 24-13, but it is France who have had the more recent major success in the tournament, having won the championship three times since England’s last victory in 2003.
For those of you that are primed and ready for the next sporting instalment, it is not just the game that is keeping you waiting with baited breath. One of the highlights of the Six Nations tournament for seasoned rugby lovers is the opportunity to visit the famed ground in the south west area of London. The Twickenham ground is located in Richmond-upon Thames and has a history that boasts great sporting achievement as well as a home for England’s rugby team. When the iconic stadium is not hosting global matches, it is used for both rugby union and rugby league play-offs.
It is not just sports fans that get to enjoy this slice of English pie either. Second only to Wembley stadium in capacity, the Twickenham ground is host to throngs of music lovers for more world class acts. Just like their sporting counterparts, the musicians here are world class too; The Rolling Stones, U2 and Iron Maiden are amongst the talents that have performed sell-out stadium gigs at the prestigious ground, easily attracting the concert capacity of around 55 thousand people.
For sell out rugby tournaments however, the potential capacity rises to a massive 82 thousand, and that is a whole lot of sports fans. Do not fear though, should you want to watch world class try’s in the comparative comfort of your living room, then consider upgrading your ticket and book in to one of the four hospitality suites overlooking the pitch. With a drinks reception, complementary bar, fabulous food and even the appearance of a guest speaker, the hospitality packages available for the England v France game aim to please. Private tables accommodate between 8 and 12 guests, and offer exclusive views of the game.
There is no danger of feeling like you are not in with the action either. Plasma screens and a referee link will ensure you can keep up with all the action whilst lapping up the luxury of English hospitality. Although it has been a while since England have taken the Six Nations title, the fact that they have been victorious over the French twice in their last two meetings, surely means that there is another win on the cards. For visitors to the Twickenham stadium, watching the home team work towards a world victory from the comfort of a hospitality suite will be the finishing touch to the team’s try’s when the final whistle blows.
