Our body needs insulin to function, but what becomes of us when our body could not produce enough insulin, or when our body cells could not respond properly to the insulin it produces? The result is diabetes mellitus, or simply, “Diabetes.” This is a very dangerous and lifelong disease that could be managed, but cannot be cured.
An estimated 21 million people in the United States have diabetes. What is even more alarming is the very fast rate at which the number of sufferers of diabetes increases every year. Studies show that the rate of new diabetes cases in the past ten years has risen more than 70%, and that is indeed a huge number by any standard. At present, diabetes has become the sixth leading causes of death in the country.
There are 2 types of diabetes: Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 diabetes is as a result of insulin deficiency which people are born with. Insulin is a substance that enables glucose to get to the cells of the body. Individuals who suffer from type 1 diabetes require regular insulin injections for the rest of their lives. Type 2 comes from many different factors, like lack of exercise, being overweight, not eating healthy foods, plus other unforeseen circumstances. Diabetics can manage or control their illness by making some dieting changes, plus exercising and being watchful and very mindful of their daily activities. Both type 1 and type 2 diabetes are not curable. They can only be managed.
Luckily, a lot of diabetic supplements, plus natural and herbal treatments, are now known and are being used successfully to control diabetes. They are especially helpful to type 2 diabetics. In many cases, constant monitoring of blood sugar levels, medical management and lifestyle changes continue to be needed, but with these herbal diabetic remedies, there now are significantly lowered risks for potentially dangerous diabetes-related problems such as sores, rashes, wounds, infections, seizures and even coma.
Diabetic herbal remedies work by helping to control blood glucose levels. A perfect instance, is the herb aloe vera which is known to lower blood sugar levels. Another herb that helps blood sugar control is ginseng. Some other natural or herbal diabetic remedies such as leaves and plant products; that bring same effect are, gymnema, fenugreek, bitter gourd (karela), dandelion, kidney beans, cinnamon, cayenne and grapefruits. Additional herbal plants and products include: pumpkin, neem seeds, garlic, coconut oil, cherries, chia seeds, buckwheat, wild jeerakam cumin seeds, turmeric powders, and green tea.
Some can be used as part of ingredients in making tea, and others could just be eaten raw without being cooked. For instance, it is suggested that a person who suffer from diabetes should soak cinnamon sticks in his tea, or take one teaspoon full of cinnamon everyday. Grapefruits can be eaten every day. Meanwhile, fenugreek seeds (about 30 grams) may be soaked in a glass of water overnight. In the morning, the water may be drunk before breakfast. Preferably, two teaspoons of powder form fenugreek seed could be used with a glass of milk or water, or even used as spice in food.
Other supplements, such as the minerals zinc and magnesium, are also known to help regulate blood sugar levels. The mineral zinc mostly can help the body in producing and storing insulin.
Generally, people with diabetes have to be very aware of what they eat. Sugar rich food, and sweets, plus food made of white flour, should all be avoided. Instead, diabetics should eat low-fat, high-fiber options, including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Diabetes is a very serious and dangerous condition; hence professional medical advice should not be neglected in favor of herbal diabetic remedies. Normally, your physician will give some guidelines and warnings as to how your daily activities; like work, lack of exercise, stress, or even how what you eat can affect a diabetic, and also what needs to be done to stay as healthy as you possibly can, even though you have diabetes.
